Introducing CCBH’s Chronic Illness and Pain Group
Calling all spoonies!
Chicago Center for Behavioral Health is launching a Chronic Illness and Pain Group to support community members living with visible or invisible illnesses. The weekly support group, run by a therapist with a chronic illness, aims to create a space to process all emotions experienced in tandem with physical unease.
Conversations about isolation, grief, medical frustration, personal ability, depression, anxiety, and more are expected as related to group member’s needs and personal experiences.
All illnesses and pain diagnoses are welcome.
Why group therapy? Chronic illness and pain can be uniquely isolating. Historically, groups have been used in a therapeutic context to allow connection and processing with people who share similar experiences and emotions. Unique to other groups, CCBH’s Chronic Illness and Pain Group allows group-designed conversation related to current struggles or stressors, which those without a chronic diagnosis may not understand.
Because of the unpredictable nature of chronic illness and pain, sessions will remain virtual to allow participants to meet from the comfort of their own homes.
An intake session with the group leader, Kelly, is required before attending group sessions. For more information on the group, or to schedule an intake, please email kwynne@chicagocbh.com.
